WHAT WE PROVIDE
Kelly Sews is an alterations service and so much more. Custom designed wedding veils and custom designed flower girl dresses are also available. When a wedding gown needs alterations, that is the special time when a dress becomes YOUR dress.
The perfect fit
Your bridal fitting! Alterations on a wedding gown are absolutely common, after all, you want to look your best on your wedding and for that, having the properly fitting garment is necessary. A few notes on what to expect:
Plan to have 1st fitting approximately 2 months prior to your event -when possible- (faster turn arounds can happen, however, they run rush fees)
Have your look ready, that means having with you, all of the undergarments (bra, bustier, waist trainer, compression undergarments, slip, underwear) you plan on wearing with your gown and the shoes you plan on wearing. Keep these items together and plan to put them on every time you try the dress on, this ensures that the dress has the same foundation and lays in the proper way on your body, the way you’ll want it to during your event. The shoes of course, can affect your posture and the length the gown needs to be.
I like to pin from the top, down. If the fit of the garment is way off that is the initial focus. Be ready to have at least two fittings (that means visiting me 3 times) the fit through the bodice and the body of the dress has to be right before we can adjust the length.
You will get dressed and then I will start pinning! Don't forget to speak up, if there is something you would like me to know or do, the more information I have, the better I can do my job (and that is helping you).
As you may have noticed, there are no prices listed on the website. Every bride, body and gown are different, this means different prices. I do my best to discuss my estimates as I pin (unless you don't want to hear numbers until the vey end, of course). Often, there are options when it comes to solving fit issues, often, options that come with different prices. Rarely, but in some cases the original quote may change after the sewing has been done, that is why during the fitting they are estimates.
Be hydrated! Eat something before your fitting. You will eat on your wedding day, let’s have your dress allow room for that! If your dress requires a hem, it can take time to pin and standing still hungry and dehydrated is uncomfortable. Not to mention, usually in brand new shoes ...so girl, break in those shoes.
CUSTOM ITEM CONSULTATION
Getting it right
When we sit down to realize your your dream piece it helps if you have images or colors/fabrics in mind! As for veils, they can come in a variety of lengths, layers and adorned with many different types of details. The flower girl dresses, those too come in an even wider variety of silhouettes and styles. We will work together to bring this piece to life.
WHAT IS A BUSTLE?
I'm glad you asked
A bustle is supplementary to your gown and it provides a convenient and temporary way to redistribute your train, transforming your dress into one length to make moving freely at your reception a breeze. Depending on the style/silhouette of your gown, we may be able to play with a few options to create different looks (or ease of putting up).
